A lot of work is involved in recruiting apprentices. With the jobs market and unemployment falling, especially in the South, it’s not easy finding the right people.
Recruiting the right apprentices could make all the difference to their success, and if you get it right, as an employer you will reap the rewards as well. Celebrities like Stella McCartney, John Frieda and Jamie Oliver all started out as apprentices in the fields they’re famous for; with our help your organization could nurture the next superstar in your sector!
Identifying the right job roles within your organization.
Creating the right job description.
Advertising for and assessing applications.
Shortlisting the best applicants.
Careful interviewing and selection.
Employing the successful candidate(s) and managing their employment.
All of this takes time, effort and skill. It’s why more local businesses are choosing to partner with the G I Apprentice, letting us source, train and even employ employees on their behalf.
This page looks at how our Direct Employment Model works, whereby we source and recruit apprentices for you. If you would like us to go one step further and employ apprentices on your behalf (the Hosting Model, our most popular service), please see our Apprentice Employment page
The Direct Employment Model
With this service, you simply pay a one-off fee, and we work to source and help you recruit an apprentice.
We start by helping you to put your job description together, including setting the optimum salary rates, before working to source the right candidates. Your vacancy can be advertised on our Apprentice Jobs Board and we also advertise it with the Workforce Investment Network. We will often partner with other employment agencies to source the best candidate for you.
We hold weekly recruitment sessions at our office, where we interview and screen candidates and invite them to come and see us. Then we screen test them which lets us assess their communications skills, professionalism and confidence. We also test their literacy and numeracy and check their CVs, any legal requirements, and so on.
Once we have shortlisted suitable applicants that meet your job description, we will then organize any interviews you might want – either one-to-one or in a group – and you can also invite candidates to attend trial days.
After you take on an apprentice, we will support you throughout the whole apprenticeship, and will also mentor your apprentice within the workplace. If you need specialist training, we can provide it, either via our sister organization the Virtuous Beacon Workforce Organization or via other government-approved providers.
Last but not least, if there are any suitable government grants available, we will advise you about them and help you to access them. For example, if you currently employ at least 5 employees, you can apply for a grant of up to $5,000.00 per apprentice, for assistance with OJT (On Job Training), Classroom Material Cost and Supplies .
